Biography
Selected Publications

In 2001, Dr. Bulanin graduated from Moscow State University with diploma in Biology, where he specialized in molecular genetics. Shortly after, he was accepted to a PhD program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. For the first two years at UIC, Denis began working as teaching assistant while taking classes to complete his credit hours requirements and studied english.
In late 2003 Dr. Bulanin joined laboratory of the Dr. Teresa Orenic and started working on his dissertation project, which he successfully completed in 2009. In March of 2010 Dr. Bulanin defended his thesis dissertation and graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with PhD degree in molecular, developmental biology and genetics.  His thesis dissertation was devoted to discovering of the molecular mechanisms controlling patterning of Drosophila peripheral nervous system.  Throughout his entire PhD career Dr. Bulanin was also working as a teaching assistant and taught a number of biological disciplines including genetics, biochemistry, developmental biology, vertebrate anatomy and ecology.
Shortly after graduation, Denis received an offer from AECOM (US Department of Defense affiliated) company in Almaty where he has started to work as a Regional Sustainment and Support Coordinator and then he was promoted to a position of Medical/Veterinary coordinator. The work of this company concerned with the improvement of control, surveillance and detection of especially dangerous pathogens in Kazakhstan and Central Asia and also on strengthening overall epidemiological control in the country of Kazakhstan.
In May of 2011, Dr. Bulanin received an offer from the Center of Life Sciences, Nazarbayev University, for a position of lead research scientist which he gladly accepted. In 2012, Dr. Bulanin was promoted to a position of the Director of the Department for Regenerative Medicine and Artificial Organs at the Center for Life Sciences.
In March 2015, Dr. Bulanin received an offer from the Nazarbayev University School of Medicine for a position of assistant professor in Biomedicine which he currently holds.
