A Welcome Message from the Departmental Chair

It is my pleasure as the Chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences to welcome to this website dedicated to the staff and activities of the department.
The department is the first of three departments established in the newly founded Nazarbayev University School of Medicine.

The School is led by Professor Massimo Pignatelli as its first Dean and started its MD program in August 2015.
The Department has international and local staff members specializing in various branches of basic Biomedical Sciences including Genetics, Immunology, Cellular Pathology, Cancer, Anatomy, Medical Microbiology, Neurosciences, Stem Cells, and Regeneration, as well as several branches of Medicine including Anaesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Neurology and General Practice.
The objectives of the Department are to provide high-quality teaching and research training to the graduate entry medical students and to develop research programs that are internationally recognized, relevant for the country, and based on the faculty members expertise. The department is currently also developing a brand new MSc in Molecular Medicine.
