Simulation Center

Simulation Center

The simulation center of the School of Medicine is a clinic model where students, medical practitioners, and other specialists before practicing in real life learn and improve clinical skills through the use of mannequins, simulators, special equipment, and with the help of specially trained personnel.

Teachers / instructors can track and evaluate the progress and development of students both on individual and group level to ensure the mastery of the main phases of the curriculum.

Working in a simulation center provides a safe environment for patients and students by using four main types of modeling:

The standardized patients program – where specially trained personnel plays the role of patients, their family members or other persons, which allows students to develop the skills of physical examination, surveying, medical history collection and communication skills.

Patient simulation by using high-end programmable simulators / mannequins, in which, depending on the clinical scenario, for example, it is possible to listen to various respiratory sounds in normal and pathological conditions when breathing, listen to heart tones and noises, determine heart rate changes and etc. In addition, any changes can be displayed on the bedside monitor, which can display ECG, pulse oximeter data, blood pressure, invasive monitoring methods, gas analyzer and etc. The solution of the clinical problem may require the implementation of invasive procedures, such as ventilation of the lungs with an Ambu bag, intubation, defibrillation, installation of drainage of the pleural or abdominal cavities, cricotirotomy and etc.

Mannequins for practicing practical skills are special simulators that provide an opportunity to study and practice such specific type of clinical procedure, as ventilation with an Ambu bag using a face mask, tracheal intubation, placement of a venous catheter (central or peripheral), lumbar puncture, and others.

Computerized simulation uses special programs that test certain knowledge and contribute to the development of clinical thinking of student, and in addition, it allows the student to practice decision-making skills.
